• Handmade. • Sponge sewn together from 10 cm x 10 cm layers of loofah. • Easy to handle. • Ideal for cleaning worktops, chopping boards, tiles, sinks, bathtubs and taps. • It may seem rough when dry, but when soaked in water it swells and becomes soft, spongy yet strong and robust. • Use with warm water and natural cleaning products! • After use, rinse and wring out, shake out any small debris and hang up to dry. To keep it fresh, wash it in the washing machine from time to time. • You can use it for months and then compost it.
But what is a loofah?
• It is a fast-growing variety of pumpkin, the fruit of the luffa gourd. It is not a sea sponge, which many people confuse it with :) • When fresh, it looks just like an elongated pumpkin. Each plant produces 5-25 fruits per year. • When ripe, a network of fibres forms inside the fruit, which, when dried, makes it perfect as a sponge for cleaning or exfoliating the skin. • LoofCo loofahs are grown in Egypt from a variety that is rich in fibres, durable and flexible. • To achieve the best texture, the loofahs are carefully harvested, seeded, peeled and dried. (Although some seeds are impossible to remove). • The dried loofahs are then cut into pieces and processed in a way that best serves their purpose. • It's no wonder that loofahs have become popular again today, as they have many environmental benefits. As more and more people become aware of the problems surrounding plastics, more and more are looking for plastic-free, biodegradable, vegan alternatives for washing up. Loofahs are perfect for this.
